How to take PAN Card in India

PAN (Personal Account Number) with Income Tax Department is necessary for almost all financial and capital market activities in India. It has become an important document for every Indian citizen. You can apply for PAN Card online or you can engage any share broking firm or bank. 

Step by step procedure for applying online

1. Fill Form 49A online and submit

2. On confirmation, a unique 15-digit acknowledgment number will be displayed. Save and print this acknowledgment

3. Affix a recent colour photograph (size 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm) in the space provided in the acknowledgment

4. Sign the acknowledgement

5. Take demand draft drawn in favour of 'NSDL - PAN', payable at Mumbai for Rs. 717.00 towards the fee for processing PAN application [Application fee Rs.67 (Rs.60.00 + 12.24% service tax) + Dispatch Charges Rs. 650.00].

6. Mention acknowledgment number on the reverse of the demand draft

7. Send the acknowledgment duly signed, affixed with photograph along with Demand Draft and proof of identity (name in the application should be same as in the proof of identity) & proof of address of residence as stated in the application form to NSDL at 'Income Tax PAN Services Unit, National Securities Depository Limited, 1^st floor, Times Tower, Kamala Mills Compound, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel (W), Mumbai - 400013'

8. Superscribe the envelope with 'APPLICATION FOR PAN - Acknowledgment Number' (e.g. 'APPLICATION FOR PAN - 881010100000097')

9. Your acknowledgment, Demand Draft, if any, and proofs, should reach NSDL within 15 days from the date of online application
